Leisure Participation of Female College Students in Taiwan: An Analysis from a Social-Cultural Perspective

This study seeks to analyse differences in leisure concepts between traditional Confucianism and Western cultures, and to discuss cultural change in Taiwan which, in turn, influences female college students' attitudes towards leisure. It is an attempt to present the results of a study which categorizes how cultural conflicts affect leisure concepts of parents and daughters. Western culture exerts a strong influence in the matter of sexual equality, which has raised the issue of Taiwanese women's rights and self-awareness. This study gives some indication of the extent to which aspects of female college students' leisure have been affected by the Westernization of Taiwanese society. Many respondents in this study no longer perceived leisure as alien to their lifestyles.
