Porous materials have long been used in gas adsorption applications and separation processes such as pressure-swing adsorption and temperature-swing adsorption in chemical engineering. On the other hand, traditional materials for gas separation membranes are categorized into organic and inorganic membranes, with the relatively recent appearance of the mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) where fillers are added to a polymer base to form a hybrid membrane with enhanced permeation and selectivity performance. Of the many fillers, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been experimentally validated and have received increased attention. This article will introduce the development of MOF MMM and its gas separation application.
