Two unprecedented red-emitting phosphors, CaZnOS:Eu2+ and -YFS:Ce^3+, were prepared, investigated and evaluated for potential fabrication of blue LED-pumped white-light LED. We demonstrated that both phosphors were found to emit strong red emission at 650-672 nm upon absorption of blue light (460-470 nm) with quantum efficiency of 26.0%-35.5% depending on the chemical compositions. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra indicated these phosphors show moderate luminescence quenching stability. A white-light LED fabricated using YAG/BOS/(Ca0.96 Eu0.04)ZnOS combination shows color rendering index of 85 and luminous efficiency of 25.6 W/lm.
