Short Communication: Survey of Intestinal Parasites of Horses in Taipei City

摘要


From July 1996 to June 1997, 63 stool samples were periodically collected from a horse ranch, a private riding club, a prop company, and the Taipei zoo. The parasitic infection were determined by formalin-ether sedimentation method. Results showed that the infections rate of Strongylus spp. (22.2%) was high, followed by Paranoplocephala mamillana (14.3%), Strongyloides westeri (6.4%), Oxyuris equi (4.8%), Parascaris equorum (3.2%) and Eimeria leuckarti (1.6%). For the multiple infection, the incidences of was 3.0% Eimeria leuckarti, Strongyloides westeri, and Strongylus spp., Paranoplocephala mamillana, Parascarise equorum, and Strongylus spp. 3.0%, Paranoplocephala mamillana, Strongylus spp., and Strongyloides westeri. 3.0%, 6.1 % Oxyuris equi, Paranoplocephala mamillana, and Strongylus spp. to and Paranoplocephala mamillana and Strongylus spp. 15.2%. This study indicated that a significant correlation exist between Paranoplocephala mamillana and Strongylus spp. (9/33). In addition, the prevalences were not influence by season, age, or sex of the host.
