The energy spectrum and angular distribution of α-particles from the 12C(n,α)^9Be reaction at 14.1 MeV have been studied by using a cloud chamber. The group of α-particles leading to the ground state of 9Be is clearly resolved; the groups to the levels at 1.75, 2.43 and 3.04 MeV are visible as well. The angular distribution of the emitted α-particles leading to the ground state of 9Be indicates the presence of the direct interaction processes, and especially the observed strong peak in the backward angles suggests that the heavy-particle stripping process plays an important roie in the 12C(n,α0)^9Be reaction. The observed angular distribution has been compared with the heavy-particle stripping and knock-on processes using plane wave theory.
