暫時的創新氛圍──台灣的開放原始碼軟體專案與會展

摘要

這篇論文的目的在於探索孕育開放原始碼創新的地方氛圍。在網路普及與開放原始碼運動的共同衝擊下，虛擬空間已經可以支持散佈世界各地的陌生人們共同開發軟體，那麼，以開放原始碼軟體為基礎的創新活動是否還需要依賴實體空間中的創新氛圍？既有的研究已經指出，以開放原始碼軟體為基礎的創新仍然需要地方氛圍的支持，這是因為在創新過程中仍然需要面對面互動。然而，不同於傳統理論所稱，支持這些面對面互動的地方氛圍，建立在暫時的地理鄰近性（temporary geographical proximity）的物質條件基礎之上。以台灣的開放原始創碼創新活動為經驗案例，本研究指出一連串的專案（projects）與會展（fairs）構成了一個「暫時的創新氛圍」（temporary innovative milieu）支持了創新過程中必要的面對面互動，暫時的地理鄰近性關係著具多元文化背景與心理狀態的異質創新作用者之間的互動合作。在開放原始碼年代裡，暫時的創新氛圍是帶動都市與區域發展的新成長引擎。

The aim of this study is to explore the local innovative milieu based on open source software. On the impact of the Internet and the open source movement, the virtual space has become new innovative environment supporting strangers all over the world to jointly develop software, then, do the innovative activities based on open source software still need to depend on the innovative milieu in the physical space? The existing studies have pointed out that the innovations based on open source software still need the support of the local innovative environment; this is because some kind of the face-to-face interactions still can not be avoided in the process of innovation. However, different from the traditional theory, the local milieu supported these face-to-face interactions is built on the basis of the temporary geographical proximity. In the empirical study of Taiwan open-source- based innovation activities, this paper has pointed that it is the temporary innovative milieu constituted by a series of projects and fairs support the necessary face-to-face interactions in the processes of innovation, and the temporary geographical proximity relate the the interactions and cooperations between the heterogeneous innovators with multi-cultural background and psychological state. In the open source era, the temporary innovative milieu is a new growth engine to spur urban and regional development.
