Research misconduct events in recent years in Taiwan and abroad have caused general public concerns and rectification measurements from the government. This paper introduces the development and impact of research misconduct, its definitions and types, the governmental regulations and policies, the guiding principles of authorship, the reflection on the East Asian cases, and the strategy of prevention. The authors argue that developing guiding principles, regulatory framework, as well as investigating and improving the systematic factors which cause research misconduct are important and helpful strategies for prevention.
