This thesis tries to understand the everyday life of city vendors from an perspective different from traditional ones. The vendors’ activities are not only profit-oriented economical activities, but also an ever-modifying, moving, and dynamic process of city space. This thesis proposes that the base of vendors’ activities is not only economic but also spatial. What constitutes the living base of the vendors is rather the way they construct the permitted and useful space, and strike the balance between themselves and other actors in the everyday life and spatial context. This thesis adopts Lefebvre’s theory of ‘ production of space’ to interpret the everyday life and spatial process of the vendors, and describes how their everyday practice and strategy stabilize the tense relation of vendors in between the nation and the private sectors. Street vendors, as a dynamic and energized everyday activities, disclosure the open and dynamic face of city space.
