一貫道基礎忠恕道院視覺識別設計創作報告

A Proposed Design for the Visual Identification of I-Kuan Tao Ji Chu Zhong Shu Temple

摘要


視覺設計在人類行為、在社會型態和生活應用已經息息相關,行住坐臥間幾乎不可離開,而當代宗教在入世行為理念及所要傳達給社會大眾的形象,不僅受視覺設計影響,也有借力使力使得運用得宜成就斐然。本創作從視覺設計的角度切入,進行台灣島上的宗教在視覺設計展現的差異性整理來討論一貫道基礎忠恕道院。 宗教團體與傳統信仰中心,如何賦予標誌象徵與意義。標誌的產生有其獨特的因由與限制,往往與時代背景、主導者的理念與群體力量的嚮往有關,其創作方法與流程各有依據的理念,歸納後有助於了解其核心架構與方針。宗教標誌的探討,從文獻中尋找認同,在精神上附予定義性質、功能、意義理論、符號與意義、文化、思維、人本身的問題,用於標誌符號在宗教的功能中展現,而宗教的志業包含文化、教育、醫療、慈善等,由案例分析了解視覺識別設計對於宗教的有所影響。 以基督教長老教會淡水教會、法鼓山、慈濟視覺規劃三件案例分析,宗教團體視覺識別是運用西方基督教與東方佛教文化資產與組織作為視覺識別建構的基礎,隱藏的符碼意義與概念,獨立出自己的視覺識別以區別其他宗教團體,用統一的視覺識別凝聚群眾向心力,成為共通的語言。 文獻說明一貫道視覺識別紛亂現況,並探討一貫道視覺識別紛亂之緣由,總結一貫道視覺識別紛亂之影響。一般標誌運用各領域之中,主要功能是在傳遞其獨特的理念與目的,往往是設計者武斷的作品,是個人理念與詮釋,需要群體力量長期的使用,因而產生視覺效果與共同經驗,才能俗成,而群體力量的認同才能建構出統一的視覺識別。 最後,本文以視覺設計為觀點,討論宗教團體的視覺識別因子經驗,來分析一貫道視覺識別與的群體力量關係,並將其現存的問題提出,就一貫道基礎忠恕道院視覺識別創作,以供後續研究之用。

Abstract Visual design has been intimately related to human behaviors, social patterns and applications in life, thus, nearly inseparable. The earthly behaviors from contemporary religions and the images they want to convey to the mass in the society, not only are under influences from visual designs, but also by going with the flow, the performance from knowing how to deploy them has been rather an exemplary one. This design had taken the visual design approach and proceeded to discuss the I-Kuan Tao Ji Chu Zhong Shu Temple by employing the differences displayed from visual designs on various religions here in Taiwan. The essence of religious organizations and traditional belief centers lies at how to render the icons with symbols and meanings. The occurrence of symbol has its unique cause and restriction; usually related to times and ages, the ideas from the advocates as well as the group strengths. The approaches and flows within the artworks have their versions of ideas to base upon; therefore, with proper summarization, it would facilitate the understanding of its core structure and guiding principle. As for religious symbol exploration, one can find the identification from literatures and attach defined property, functionality, meaning and theory, symbol and significance, culture, thoughts and issues from the human to the spiritual side, then reapply them in the symbol performance display in religious context. Whereas the causes of religion include culture, education, medical care and philanthropy, etc, hence, by case study analysis, one can analyze and understand the impact to religion from the visual identification design perspective. Three visual planning cases: Danshuei branch of the Presbyterian Church, Dharma Drum Mountain and Tzu Chi were adopted for case study purpose, one can tell that the visual identification for religious group applies the cultural assets and organizations from occidental Christian religion and oriental Buddhism as the construct foundation, hiding the symbol meaning and concept, individualizing self visual identification so as to distinguish from other religious groups and use the unified visual identification to solidify the mass inclinations and turn them into the common language as result. Nonetheless, what the literatures revealed is the chaotic status from the visual identification for I-Kuan Tao. Moreover, this thesis will explore the causes for visual identification chaos observed for I-Kuan Tao and summarize the impacts from chaos as well. Generally, with the domain where the symbol is applied to, its main function is to convey its unique idea as well as purpose; unfortunately, instead, it is usually the arbitrary artworks from the designers, an idea and interpretation on individual level; thereby, it requires a long-term commitment by the mass in general could it produce the desired visual effectiveness and common experiences, followed with conventionality in addition to the fact that only by the collective recognition from the mass power, could it be possible to construct a unified visual identification. Lastly, this thesis applies the visual design as the perspective, and proceeds to discussions about the visual identification factors and experiences for religious groups, to analyze the visual identification for I-Kuan Tao and its group strength relationships. Furthermore, this thesis will propose the existing issues and problems observed by targeting to designs for the visual identification of I-Kuan Tao Ji Chu Zhong Shu Temple and with the expectation of serving as the references for future researches.
