Previous studies have centered on the role of wind in the selection of settlement locations, or the layout of the industrial region in a city. However, the affect the wind has on urban street patterns through the construction/abandonment of airfields has never been addressed. In this study, a case study of the impact of the Taipei Airfield during the War World II was documented. A new concept connecting the following elements, ”climatological wind→the runway directions of the airfield→the fosse of the airfield→the directions of streets”, was introduced to explain the street patterns in the Min-sheng community of the Taipei City.
