In this paper, the various provisions for the library in the National policy on Education (1981) have been highlighted. The antecedents to these provisions are also shown. Finally, some of the major weaknesses in the provisions for the library are outlined. It was concluded that the provisions for the library in the various sections are indications of government acceptance of the library as an instrument for teaching and learning activities and so two recommendations are made to enhance library services in the country.
