Comparison between Palatal Implants and Radiofrequency Volume Reduction in the Management of Snoring Symptoms of Patients with Sleep-disordered Breathing

軟腭植入與射頻軟腭手術對於睡眠呼吸障礙患者之打鼾療效比較

摘要


背景:本研究乃比較睡眠呼吸障礙患者接受軟腭植入及射頻軟腭手術間之臨床打鼾療效差異。方法:我們回顧從民國99年4月至101年12月於本院因睡眠呼吸障礙接受軟腭植入或射頻軟腭手術之患者,收集基本資料、睡眠檢查結果、理學檢查、睡眠呼吸障礙相關問卷,來進行統計分析。結果:總共有63名患者進入最後之統計分析,30名患者接受軟腭植入手術,33名患者接受射頻軟腭手術。年齡、性別、睡眠檢查結果(包含術前及術後)、及嗜睡指數在兩組間並無明顯統計學上的差異。但在主觀之打鼾程度方面(視覺量表評估),軟腭植入患者之改善幅度較射頻軟腭手術患者來得多,在術後疼痛方面,軟腭植入患者較射頻軟腭手術患者來得輕微。結論:就單次治療而言,軟腭植入患者與射頻軟腭手術患者比較起來在主觀上有較好之治療效果,且術後疼痛程度亦較輕微。

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the treatment effects of palatal implants (PI) and radiofrequency (Rf) volume reduction on snoring symptoms in patients with sleep-disordered breathing. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed chart records of patients with sleep-disordered breathing treated with either PI or Rf from April 2010 to December 2012. Basic patient data along with polysomnography, anatomical variables, and results of sleep-disordered breathing-related questionnaires were collected and analyzed. Results: A total of 63 patients were enrolled in the final analyses. Thirty patients received PI while 33 patients underwent Rf. No significant differences were found between the two groups in the change of apnea-hypopnea index, snoring index, minimal oxygen saturation, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale. However, there was a greater reduction in snoring using a visual analog scale (VAS) in the PI group when compared with that of the Rf group. The postoperative pain was better tolerated in participants who received PI. Conclusions: A single treatment session resulted in a more favorable outcome for the PI patients compared with that seen in the Rf patients, based on subjective data. Participants who received PI also had less postoperative pain when compared to that of patients who underwent Rf.
