President Tsai Ing-wen issued a "five-point food safety" policy during her 2015 presidential campaign in aims that the reform program can proactively solve food safety issues and rebuild consumer confidence in food safety. The major focuses of the policy’s five interrelated initiatives are to reduce the risk and intervene in any potential hazards entering into food supply chain, and re-establish a safe farm-to-table production system by integrating management resources food safety among agencies, furthering the combined strengths among industry self-management, governmental management and the public participation in ensuring food safety. To achieve President Tsai’s policy goals and take responsibility for national food safety, the Executive Yuan promoted integrated strategy and action plan for a five-point food safety program in June 2016. In response the progresses and promising outputs made, this article will briefly introduce the up-to-date achievements of the five-point food safety reforms.
