Based on the unpublished manuscript of his ”Journal”, this article infers that Wang Tao (1828-1897) suffered from a venereal disease. Moreover, using his private prescriptions for ”lovemaking,” it will discuss changes in the nature of passing down the technique of ”the art of lovemaking,” exclusively from generation to generation within the family. Wang Tao's ”Journal” is not merely a basis for research on his individual medical history but also serves as primary source material on the contemporary lifestyle of the literati.
