The National Taiwan Science Education Center (NTSEC) launched Edison Adventure, a charitable learning event, during which disadvantaged schoolchildren from remote areas were invited to participate in a series of free science education programs at the NTSEC. The expectation was the raising of awareness of science education opportunities for disadvantaged children. The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of the participating children and the benefits of this event. From a comprehensive analysis of focus interviews with the children, individual interviews with teachers who led students during the event, and feedback from the children, the participants gained object experience, cognitive experience, introspective experience, and social experience during the event. Based on individual interviews with teachers who observed the learning performance of the participating children during the six months following this event, the children experienced cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor benefits. In addition, inspiring story elements were discovered in and extracted from the interview transcripts. These can be used to construct a story marketing strategy for the host institute. Two major themes and six real plots, based on the experiences of children and teachers, can serve as source materials for developing and writing subsequent story marketing scripts. These can be used to promote the efficacy of this event in a way that resonates with the public and sponsors. The findings of this study can serve as a reference for host institutes and sponsors of future charitable learning events.
