批判性思考於英語教學中之應用-以電影教學為例

Incorporating Critical Thinking into English Language Teaching in the Film-based Classroom

摘要


培養學生批判性思考能力在近幾十年來始終是許多臺灣的教育界專家學者努力的方向。要落實批判性思考教學,最好的方式之一便是與各科授課內容結合。在大學英語教學的範疇中,卻少有與批判性思考融合之課程研究。因此,本研究嘗試以英語電影為主要教學材料,並採用主題式教學法,將批判性思考教學融入大學外文系二技專班的英文課程中。且針對26名學生期初及期末之不記名問卷,對此種教學法和課程設計及其相關因素做一審慎評估。結果發現,大部分的學生對批判性思考的認識和能力極為貧乏,而此一課程不僅可提高外文系二技專班學生的學習興趣,亦有助於批判性思考能力的培養與英語學習。文末亦對類似課程及教學提出建議。

Infusing critical thinking into the curriculum has been considered as an effective way to enhance students' critical thinking abilities. However, critical thinking has never been an important part of ELT curriculum at university level in Taiwan. Hence, this study aimed to teach both critical thinking and English through films to two-year program undergraduates in this one semester elective course. The research instruments included two questionnaires completed by 26 students in this class. The questionnaire survey was analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings showed that most of the students in this class lacked of understanding of critical thinking. Using theme-based instruction along with films was useful to stimulate the students to learn English and critical thinking. Some suggestions for teaching critical thinking through films were also provided.
