大學英語特色課程效益之研究-以多益課程為例

A Study on Effectiveness of College English-Featured Courses on TOEIC

摘要


本論文研究大學英語特色課程之實質效益,以「多益測驗與工商英文課程」對大學生之英語學習影響為例。六十位非英語系之大學生參與本研究,依其選修課程,分成兩組:「多益英文組」與「一般英文組」;兩組學生,在訓練直接準備測驗課程前後,進行多益模擬測驗,完成測驗前和測驗後的問卷,檢視不同課程對多益測驗得分與英語學習的實質效益為何。從個別訪談中,進一步闡述「多益英文組」後測得分未達顯著進步之原因。主要研究發現為:多益測驗準備課程,實質影響大學英語學習者之課餘英語學習活動。於多益測驗得分方面,僅在閱讀測驗部分達顯著進步,聽力測驗得分未達顯著差異。最後,本論文深入探討閱讀-聽力間歧異現象、總結該課程之實質效益,提出大學英語特色課程應改善之建言。

This paper examines the effectiveness of one college English-featured course on TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication). Sixty college participants with non-English major were divided into two treatment groups: the TOEIC Group and the General (four-skills) Group. The former took the in direct test preparation courses, but the latter did not. Both groups answered questionnaires, and took a pre-test as post-test. A follow-up interview was conducted for eight participants in order to elaborate the reasons for nosignificant improvement in the post-test. The major findings showed that the English-featured courses on TOEIC influenced the TOEIC Groups' after-class English learning activities. Overall test score gains were significantly found in the English reading section, but not in the English listening section. Reasons for such an asymmetrical finding were discussed, and suggestions for future English-featured courses in college were made.
