Ten newly recorded and one reconfirmed species, seven new records of genera, and one newly recorded family of the mesopelagic or bathypelagic deep-sea fishes, Stomiiformes, around Taiwanese waters were collected by R/V 'Ocean Researcher Ⅰ' from August 2001 to July 2004. Among them, Cyclothone atraria Gilbert, 1905, C. pallida Brauer, 1902, Gonostoma atlanticum Norman, 1930 in Gonostomatidae; Ichthyococcus elongatus lmai, 1941 and Vinciguerria nimbaria (Jordan & Williams, 1895) in Photichthyidae; Bathophilus nigerrimus Giglioli, 1882, Eustomias bifilus Gibbs, 1960, Pachystomias microdon Günther, 1878, Photostomias guemei Collett, 1889, and Thysanactis dentex Regan & Trewavas, 1930 in Stomiidae are new records of species. One reconfirmed species is Stomias nebulosus Alcock, 1889. Photichthyidae is newly recorded family. Cyclothone, Ichthyococcus, Vinciguerria, Bathophilus, Pachystomias, Photostomias, and Thysanactis are newly recorded genera. There are totally now 40 species in 25 genera of 4 families in Taiwan. Diagnostic characters, specimen records, distribution, color photographs or line-drawings, and sampling information are provided for newly recorded and reconfirmed species. A key to species of Taiwan is given.
