The name of disease pattern ”Tong-feng” was mentioned firstly by Li-Dong-Yuan, who was a physician at Jin-Yuan Dynasty in China. The treatment of Tong-feng zheng was detail discussion by Dan-Xi Ju. The definition of Tong-Feng zheng by Dan-Xi’s concept was arthralgia in extremities. It is a broad meaning of joint disease. In ancient age, Tong-Feng zheng had an another names of Bi-Zheng or white tiger or joint-running wind. The modern medicine, the name of ”gout” is purine metabolism disturbance which induced gouty arthritis resulted from hyperuricaemia. The Chinese word of Tong-feng zheng is the same as gout, but both the definition is different. Ju's thinking process that the etiology of Tong feng zheng resulted from phlegm, wind-heat, wind-dampness and blood vacuity. He though that blood vacuity and fire preponderance as well as blood heat with stasis were main mechanism of Tong-feng zheng attack. He used the acrid hot herbs to expelling cold-damp and used the way of nourishing the blood and clearing heat to treat the main cause. On the other hand, he created some famous formulas of Er-Miao San and Shang-JungShia Tong Feng Wan etc.
