Mature leaves of 7 species of Eucalyptus were collected and steam distilled to obtain their essential oils. The content and compositions of the oils were determined separately. Filter paper and wood flours steeped with the oils were tested for their termite resistance. The results indicated that Eucalyptus grandis and E. globulus oils exhibited the highest termite resistance, followed by E. citriodora and E. urophylla oils. The other oils were less effective. Test on varying oil concentrations indicated that 2% of the oils gave the best results, while concentrations less than 0.25% showed virtually no termite repelling effect. Effective antitermite components among the oils were identified, α-pinene was found as the most effective, followed by p-cymene and 1, 8-cineole, while the other components less effective.
