Maackia taiwanensis Hoshei et Ohashi is endemic to Taiwan. Hermaphroditic flowers are produced from early August to late August. Inflorescence primordia are formed at shoot apices in mid April. Anther primordia are formed by early July, and composed of a protoderm and a central cell mass. The anther wall layers consist of epidermis, one-layered endothecium, two middle layers and tapetum of one layer, and the formation pattern belongs to the Basic type. The tapetal cells are glandular type of characteristics. Pollen mother cells undergo meiosis through simultaneous cytokinesis and give rise to tetrahedral tetrads of microspores. Mature pollen grains are 2-celled, globose and 15~20μm in diameter. Anthers are longitudinally dehiscent and pollen grains shed by late-August.
