格斯特家白蟻對樹木結構之破壞及再入侵-以下坪熱帶植物園琉球松為例

Damage and Reinvasion of Asian Subterranean Termite on Trees: a Case Study of Luchu Pine in Xiaping Tropical Botanical Garden

下坪熱帶植物園一棵琉球松(Pinus luchuensis Mayr.)於2012年發現受格斯特家白蟻(Coptotermes gestroi(Wasmann))危害,經施用餌劑,於2015年初已成功消滅白蟻群體。本研究為量化白蟻對琉球松樹木內部造成的危害,於2016年琉球松枯死後,將樹幹與樹枝以每50 cm截斷,檢查後發現,樹幹內部從基部到6.35 m高皆有白蟻蛀蝕痕跡,蛀空區域占截面積16.0±7.1 %(3.0-27.1 %)。樹根的部分,在52個檢查點內發現18個有白蟻蛀痕,其中從樹基部與5個根部截面採得白蟻活體,分析比較2013年與2016年所採集白蟻樣本的微衛星序列得知前後兩次發現的群體不同,而且2016年的樣本可能來自多個群體。本研究顯示格斯特家白蟻主要危害琉球松下半部的樹幹與根部。施用餌劑雖然是實用的白蟻滅巢方法,但是他巢白蟻再入侵同一棵樹,僅在停用餌劑2年內就發生,因此本研究建議持續性使用餌劑系統,減少重複投入防治資源,提高防治的效率。

A Luchu pine (Pinus luchuensis Mayr.) of the Xiaping Tropical Botanical Garden was found to be infested by Asian subterranean termites, Coptotermes gestroi (Wasmann) in 2012. The termite colony in the tree was baited, and then no termite was observed since early 2015. In order to quantify the damage caused by termites, after the Luchu pine died in 2016, the tree trunk and branches were cut into 50-cm sections for detailed examination. Termite tunnels were found in the trunk up to 6.35 meters above ground and 16.0±7.1 % (3.0-27.1 %) area of these cross-sections were emptied by termites. In addition to the trunk, 18 of 52 root sections examined in this study were infested by termites. Alive Coptotermes termites were found in tree stumps and five root sections. Microsatellite genotyping showed that the termites found in tree roots were different from the previous colony in 2013. This study showed that Asian subterranean termites infested lower part of the Luchu pine. Even though baiting is a practical method to eliminate termite colony, reinvasion of surrounding colonies occurred within 2 years. As a result, we suggest continuous use of baiting systems to reduce the repeated costs and resources, and increase the efficiency of prevention and control.
