Samples of white croaker, Argyrosomus argentatus (Houttuyn), were collected monthly from the catches of bull trawlers operating in the southern East China Sea and Taiwan Strait from January 1973 to December 1974. The feeding habit of the collected species was investigated by an occurrence method and weight method, and results are summarized as follows: (1). The food organisms found in the stomachs of white croaker were mostly benthos. Shrimps were the most abundant, followed by fishes. Small crabs, squillas and squids were found occasionally. (2). There were no differences in the diet between males and females. (3). With the growth of the white croaker, the frequency and the body size of fishes in their stomachs increased. The relation between the size of predator and the size of prey was: Y=0.6848X-4.2046, where Y=the upper limit of fork length of prey in cm and X=the total length of white croaker in cm (4). There were significant differences in the diet between the fish caught from the southern East China Sea and Taiwan Strait. (5). No seasonal variations occurred in the diet of white croaker in the southern East China Sea.
