Potentials of the Gold Deposits in the Central Range, Taiwan

The placer gold in the Central Range occurs in a N-S belt 300 km long with a width of 70 km. The gold was mainly found in four districts which are, from north to south, North Tachoshui Stream, the Pingfengshan, the Tsoshehtashan, the Yushan. Each district has a N-S length of 20 to 30 km and a width of 10 to 15 km. The known gold deposits consist of quartz veins with native gold and pyrite. In the investigated Pingfengshan and North Tachoshui Stream districts, arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite are also common. The wallrocks of the gold-quartz veins include Mesozoic, Eocene, Oligocene, and Miocene formations. The gold-quartz veins cut the regional-metamorphic quartz veins in the Miocene Lushan Formation which was metamorphosed possibly in early Pleistocene, therefore, the age of the gold-quartz veins is very young, close to that of the gold-copper deposits of the Chinkuashih district.
