摘要

臺灣之石英岩石礦床以四稜層之變質砂岩及大南澳片岩之變質燧石兩者較重要。臺中南投地區之變質砂岩厚可達15公尺，含SiO_2約90～93%。慈恩附近之變質燧石厚可達50公尺，含SiO_2約92～96%。兩者可經手選後提高SiO_2 1～3%。本文係就所發現之十七個高矽石英岩露頭予以簡單概述。至其礦床之沉積環境與探勘方法將另文討論。

The metamorphosed sandstones in the Szeleng Formation and the metamorphosed chert in the Tananao Schist are the important quartz rock deposits in Taiwan. The metamorphosed sandstone in the Taichung-Nantou district may attain a thickness of 15 m and contain 90 to 93% SiO_2. The metamorphosed chert at Tzuan may attain a thickness of 50m and contain 92 to 96% SiO_2. The SiO_2 contents in both quartzites may be increased for 1 to 3% by the hand-sorting method. Seventeen outcrops of high-silica quartzites are briefly described. The sedimentary environment and exploration method will be discussed in a separate paper.
