稀土金屬之用途日益廣泛,用量逐增,在冶金工業、煉油工業、玻璃工業。電子工業等方向均予應用,已成為工業上很重要的原料。稀土金屬之物理及化學性質均極相似,故使其個別之分離比較困難,但這種困難業經克服。稀土金屬之來源多得自磷釩礦,氟碳鈰礦,及獨居石。台灣重砂中有不少的獨居石(含黃與黑兩者),迄未正式開採利用,十分可惜。值此稀土金屬用途日增,價格高昂之時,開發重砂,提取獨居石,分離稀土金屬,允為其時矣。本文概論稀土金屬之性質、用途、提煉、產銷、及價格,以供同好參考。
Rare Earth elements are nowadays more and more popular to men, and widely used in metallurgical, petroleum refining, glass, and electronic industries, and etc. The source minerals of Rare Earths elements are Bastnastite, Monazite, and Xenotime. As Taiwan bas quite abundant reserves of both yellow and black Monazite, remaining unexplored, and the separated Rare Earths from Monazites have very good prices on the world market, it is cons idered to be the right time now to do something about the ultilization of this valuable resource. The properties, uses, processing, market and producers of RE have been described in this paper.
