The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of vitamin C and iron on lactation performance and blood parameters response of Holstein lactating cows during the hot season (June and July). A complete randomized design with 10 days covariate adjustment was adopted. A total of 24 Holstein lactating cows (average 168±41 days in milk) were assigned into two groups according to their body weight, milk yield, parity and days in milk. Cows received diets containing 0 (control group), and 30 g vitamin C and 600 mg iron (head/day) (treatment group) for 60 days. The average temperature-humidity index (THI) was 83.1. Results showed that diets added with vitamin C and irondid not affect dry matter intakes, milk yield, body weight, and milk efficiency (milk/intake). Adding vitamin C and iron did not significantly affect milk composition. Co-supplementation vitamin C and iron significantly increased serum glucose, plasma hematocrit, and mean corpuscular volume (MCV); however, the total protein, albumin, globulin, calcium concentrations, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase enzyme activities in serum, and red blood cells, white blood cells, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and platelet in plasma were not significantly affected by treatment group. In conclusion, co-supplementation of vitamin C and iron to the diet of lactating cows did not affect cow performance, but it significantly increased serum glucose, plasma hemoglobin and MCV during the hot season.
