We analysed complications in a series of 55 free flap surgeries. The overall complication rate was 21.8% which includes both recipient area flaps (20%) and donor site morbidity (1 .8%). The flap surgery failure rate was 3.6%. Etiology of the complications include partial flap necrosis (9%) hematoma (3.6%). and venous thrombosis (3.6%). Early prompt flap salvage procedure was the method of choice to improve flap survival. In this retrospective study we found that meticulous anastomosis minimized the flap ischemic time in combination with gentle manipulation and adequate postoperative evaluation were all necessary in creating successful flap surgery.
