Compartment syndrome is a common complication in the diaphyseal fractures of the tibia, but is quite rare in tibial plateau fractures. We were able to find only one case reported in the English literature. Since tibial plateau fractures account for 1% of all fractures and 8% of fractures in the elderly, it is important to be aware of all potential complications. We present this case and discuss the probable reasons for its rarity from an anatomic and etiologic viewpoint.
