EXTRACTION OF CHROMIUM IONS USING NEW NOVEL COMPOSITE ADSORBENT MATERIAL

This study describes the combination of activated glass powder, zeolites, and graphene oxide to produce a composite adsorbent in order to extract chromium ions from its solution. The ratios of the activated glass powder, zeolites, and graphene oxide (1:1:1) were created. The adsorbent of composite material is analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement. Batch experiments were conducted to assess the novel composites' capacity to remove chromium ions from their solution using an adsorbent of composite material for the extraction of heavy metal at various metal ion concentrations, pH of the solution, and contact times. The maximum extraction of Cr (VI) using composite adsorbent is 95% at pH of 3, and 6 hr. The study used the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models to confirm the efficacy of the adsorption. The conclusion has highlighted that the Freundlich isotherm model could describe the Cr (VI) adsorption onto the composite adsorbent based on Freundlich isotherm models' constant values, n = 2.8 and correlation coefficients R^2 = 0.97.
