This article is to reveal how Cardinal Paul Shan Kuo-hsi moved beyond into death through faith. First, based on St. Ignatius de Loyola's spiritual journey, we understand how the practical exercise of Spiritual Exercises led Cardinal Shan to combine static prayer and active life when he was confronted with the urgency of death, bearing witness to the wonder of life. The writer would proceed along the following aspects: fragility, self-hollowing, space-relinquishing, self-sacrifice, becoming a gift. Accordingly, we highlight how Cardinal Shan admitted the fragility of the body, relinquished his space for hollowing himself, a sacrificed himself as a gift to invite others to the substance of life.
