Ossifying Fibromyxoid Tumor of the External Ear Canal-A Case Report

Ossifying fibromyxoid tumor (OFMT) of the soft parts is an uncommon, recently described mesenchymal neoplasm. Clinical behavior of this rare neoplasm probably varies from benign to truly malignant, although the latter possibility is extremely low. Prior reports of OFMT characterized it as a slow-growing lesion with a propensity to occur in both the upper and lower extremities. Although this is an indolent tumor, local recurrence has been reported. We report on a 14-year old boy with OFMT in the external ear canal, a hitherto unreported location of this neoplasm. This patient complained of right-sided hearing impairment with persistent otorrhea and ear pain. There was no local recurrence 6 months after complete local excision of the mass. In addition, we review some current knowledge of this distinct neoplasm.
