This research is aimed at establishing a teaching procedure of functional fashion design and sampling creatively by adopting CLO 3D and Gerber system via 2 instructors, 9 industrial professionals, 8 companies and 14 students. From this functional fashion course, these students are able to have confidence to utilise functional textiles to form functional clothing from textile industry of New Taipei City. These students' background, ether have and have no pattern-making skill, are able to do a first garment sampling within 15 weeks. The technologies of the students are ready to take smart clothing design as next stage. There are 4 steps to do this research. Firstly, design preparation is designed for the users' need by problem-based learning. Secondly, before constructing a first garment sample, the author adopts CLO 3D and GERBER with the students to modify the problem of pattern-making. This overcome an exist garment sampling problem, which is using trail and errol method to do sampling, to improve the quality of pattern accuracy and efficiency. Thirdly, the primary garment samples are fitting by mannequins after garment construction. The final step is to collect feedback from 4 professional via exhibition and oral presentation. The research result shows that this course is useful for the students to construct a high degree of accuracy of first garment sample. Especially, the 12 students realize the design highly match with design sketch. All of the students are able to complete this cross-discipline course.
