Intelligent IP video surveillance is an important research topic, which integrates the techniques of video compression, network transmission, video analysis, and camera cooperation to provide active safety and high-quality video services. In this article, firstly we present the development status and trends of video surveillance systems (VSS) and video compression. Then, the processes and difficulties of human motion analysis, which provides the ability of intelligent reasoning for VSS, are described. Finally, we introduce the cooperation techniques of camera assignment and hand-off tracking by illustrations.
