Introduction of 3GPP Proximity-based Service Technology and Business Innovation

摘要


本文針對目前3GPP Rel.12 Proximity-based Service(ProSe;近身通訊服務)進行介紹, 內文提到工研院提出的多範圍計費模式,在近身通訊服務的框架下被國際營運商所接受且進一步推動。本文會討論在近身通訊服務下的網路架構的變革-“在營運商的頻譜裝置間可以直接通訊”,為了這個變革,三種關鍵技術可以被使用去實現:LTE Device-to-Device Communication、WiFi Direct、eNB Local Routing。後續再根據LTE Device-to-Device Communication進行說明,目前LTE Device-to-Device Communication包含了ProSe Discovery以及ProSe Communication,公共安全營運商需要的是ProSe Communication去彌補非網路覆蓋下的通訊;但商用營運商需要的是ProSe Discovery去提供廣告等商用服務。最後說明在LTE框架下,Device-to-Device技術相較於既有技術的優越性以及其所面臨的挑戰。

This paper introduces 3GPP Rel. 12 Proximity-based Services (ProSe). ITRI proposed a multiple-ranges charging model, which is also agreed under proximity-based services and promoted by operators. Firstly, major network architecture change for ”applying licensed band to perform direct communication” is discussed. For this change, three key technologies could be applied to fulfill this architecture: LTE Device-to-Device Communication, WiFi Direct, eNB Local Routing. In the remaining, LTE Device-to-Device Communication is further introduced. At the current stage, LTE Device-to-Device Communication encompasses ProSe Discovery and ProSe communication. Public Safety operators request for ProSe Communication to resolve an out-of network coverage case. Commercial operators need ProSe Discovery to provide advertisement and other services. To the end, this paper highlights the superiorities to conventional technologies and the challenges under operator's network.
