Endometrial hyperplasia is a precursor to the endometrial cancer. It is most found in postmenopausal women, but also occurred in young women with unopposed estrogen from any source. The treatment of endometrial hyperplasia with progesterone appears to be a safe alternative to hysterectomy in women with reproductive age. However, postmenopausal women should be treated with total hysterectomy. The use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device, or aromatase inhibitor appear to to be as other alternative in the selected patients.
