摘要
Timolol是一種β-類交感神誣阻塞劑，具有許多特性，我們謹慎地選用十二位自願者，給予0.5% Timolol眼藥水一滴於其中一眼之下結膜囊，一小時眼壓卽明顯下降，兩小時降至最低，降壓作用至少持續24小時。觀察期間對視力，調節能力及瞳孔大小，均無有意義之變化，其對照眼之眼壓也略有下降，推想是Timolol經由全身作用之故。對血壓改變不大，但脈膊均有明顯下降，因此對脈脯較慢之病人使用時要特別注意。由我們的經驗，Timolol可能是治療青光眼一種有效，副作用又小而局部使用方便的新藥，至於對青光眼病人及長期使用後是否有其他副作用，是否可與其他降眼壓的藥物有加成作用，則須進一步有系統的研究。

Timo1ol, a β-adrenergic blocking agent, was used in a study of 20 normal volunteers. This single-dose study demonstrated that 0.5% Timolol lowers intraocular pressure in normal volunteers; has a duration of effect for at least 24 hours; and does not show significant local or systemic side effect. Timolol may be an effective, innocuous, easily applied topical agent for the treatment of glaucoma. Longterm multiple dose in glaucoma patient studies are in progress.
