7.80±0.86 mmHg (mean±standard deviation)
Elevated episcleral venous pressure (EVP) may cause an increase of intraocular pressure that may lead to secondary glaucomatous damage. An instrument, the venomanometer, is available commercially for the measurement of episcleral venous pressure. In this study, we used the venomanometer to study the EVP in 146 eyes of 73 subjects (25 men and 48 women) distributed in 7 age groups between 10 and 80 years. The normal values of EVP and the differences between 7 age groups, sexes and both eyes were assessed. No statistically significant differences between 7 age groups (P>0.05, one-way ANOVA) and between sexes (P>0.05, t-test) were noted. Laterality was not found in our study. The mean EVP for the entire population (146 eyes of 73 subjects) was 7.80±0.86 mmHg (mean±SD).
