斷層（Fault）科學名詞的中英文由來

摘要

本文透過文獻探討方式瞭解地質科學名詞「斷層」中文為由英文意譯而來；英文fault則為英格蘭採礦工人用來指示煤層消失，又可能在其他地方出現，此種地質現象的用語。其他包括上盤、下盤、正斷層與逆斷層等為當時英格蘭礦工術語經紀錄解釋後，才演變為今日地質科學名詞。
