Gallium-67 Scanning in Peritoneal Mesothelioma: A Rare Case Report

並列摘要

Mesothelioma is a rare primary tumor of serous membranes, which habitually carries a poor prognosis. It is generally discovered in the advanced phase of the disease, due to the variety of clinical and radiological findings, which worsens its prognosis even further. We report a case of non-asbestos related mesothelioma that occurred in a 62-year-old high-school teacher and was initially diagnosed as peritoneal tuberculosis. Histologically, the tumor was composed of numerous mesothelial cell clusters, and tumor cells were positive for calretinin and keratin 5/6. The patient's condition gradually deteriorated and he died 6 months after diagnosis in spite of administration of combination chemotherapy. This observation confirms the poor prognosis of this entity and the importance of the differential diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma. The manifestations regarding its clinical course, imaging and pathological features are described.
