Acute Ischemic Stroke and Myocardial Infarction during Bronchoscopy

Acute ischemic stroke coinciding with myocardial infarction has rarely been reported. We report a 74-year-old gentleman who lost consciousness in the middle of a bronchoscopy examination. Subsequent work-up revealed both an acute ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction. The patient recovered fully with minimal neurological sequelae after thrombolytic therapy. Vasovagal response during the invasive procedure may have induced cardiac arrhythmia, leading to both myocardial infarction and stroke.
