The study focuses on the lexicon of the Hakka language in Taiwan. Following Su (1996) and Hsu (1999) who call for more attention to the lexicon of Chinese dialects. we discuss the lexicon of Si-xian Hakka and Hai-lu Hakka, two major sub-dialects of Hakka widely spoken in Taiwan. We hope to contribute to the research of Hakka lexicon.The findings are summarized as follows:1) We have discovered 156 different usages in Sixian and Hailu Hakka dialects, and further analyzed their differences and similarities.2) We have found the types of morphology of Sixian and Hailu dialects by investigating how the lexicon of these two Hakka dialects are formed.3) We have also explored the culture connotation of the lexicon of Sixian and Hailu Hakka, and found a number of special words with local culture characteristics.
