彭紹升「戒律思想」探析

摘要
佛法以戒為根本，無論修學哪一種法門，都必須遵守戒律作為修行的基礎功課，方能藉由所修持之法門（如：參禪、念佛、持咒），以達成「戒定慧」三學修習的效果。因此，自古以來皈依的佛子，不論在家的居士或出家的僧侶，都必須遵守釋迦佛陀制定的戒律，以在家居士而言，最基本的要求即是三歸和五戒，其最終目的即在於使佛子能防惡止非、斷惡修善。然而，清初乾隆時期的彭紹升（1740－1796），是一位儒釋貫通的學者，也是一位弘揚淨土不遺餘力的大居士。筆者考察其生平事蹟，發現他初學佛不久，即誓守佛門戒律，不犯威儀，嚴以律己，守戒如僧。彭紹升能以居士的身分，恪守佛律，難能可貴，引發筆者研究的動機，因此，本文擬將從他的〈體仁錄敘〉、〈戒殺論上．下〉、〈論梵網經婬戒〉、〈南園放生池碑〉等文中，全面來探析他的戒律思想。
