Oral implants had revolutionized the world of dentistry in practice as well as marketing since so many different implant systems were introduced in the past two decades. The second part of this review focused on the interaction between etiology and treatment. The pathogenesis of implant failure in conjuction with the integrated treatment was investigated based on scientific evidence and proven technique. Besides biologic factors of failure, other complicated factors were surveyed from different viewpoints including anatomic location, surgical technique, and prosthetic restoration components. Host responses to implant treatment including systemic and local factors were also proven to be cor-related. The understanding of etiologies in relation to implant failure offers a guide for clinical dentist in the management of patients received dental implant.
