c-Fos is a transcription factor which is involved in the inflammation reaction, cell differentiation, cell maturation, oncogenesis and apoptosis process. It also correlated with the functioning process of another transcription factor NF-κB. The role of NF-κB plays in inflammation process was well studies by many researches. Nevertheless, The role of c-Fos plays in inflammation process especially periodontitis is uncertain. The present article will briefly review the c-Fos family and their character, activation factors and function in chronic inflammation as well as their impact on bone, connective tissue and the correlation with periodontal disease.
