Dental implant restoration is becoming the first choice for the patients and dentists to rehabilitate the edentulous area in this brand new era. However, insufficient alveolar ridge in width and height are always a problem for a dentist to install an implant in a proper and safe position. The alveolar ridge can be augmented in two ways: non-surgical (orthodontic extrusion technique) and surgical. This paper discusses the indications, advantages and treatment methods of orthodontic extrusion technique for vertical ridge augmentation. Moreover, the implant stability in the augemented ridge by the orthodontic extrusion technique and surgical technique will also be compared. In short, orthodontic ridge augmentation technique provide good results in soft and hard tissue aspects, and also in implant stability and survival rate.
