Dental implant has been widely used in rehabilitation of single or multiple missing teeth, but the complications are also found. The complications can be classified into two categories, one is biological complication and the other is mechanical complication. Both complications will increase the difficulty of treatments. The future works of studies are not only to decrease the complications of implants, but also to deal with the complications. Removal of implants is one of the treatments to handle complications. Many methods are proposed, but there were no standard clinical guidelines for clinicians. The aim of this article is to systemically review the methods of removing implants, and compare their advantages, disadvantages and decision of choice.
