It is widely known that immediate implant placement is a predictable and successful surgical protocol nowadays. With the improvement of the surface treatment of the implant and the concepts of keeping the soft and hard tissue surrounding the edentulous area, it is widely used in the implant surgery to reduce the number of surgical procedure, the treatment time, the postoperative discomfort and the waiting period. Osteomyelitis is a difficult infectious disease of the jaw and is extremely difficult to treat. However, to our best knowledge, there are limited previous articles about the diffuse osteomyelitis following immediate implant placement. By this case report, we review the literature to explore the relationships between immediate implant placement and osteomyelitis as well as the diagnosis and the treatment of osteomyelitis.
