Successful dental implant and related supportative restoration at edentulous sites depends on the quality and quantity of alveolar bone used. Prosthetic guided implant surgery requires adequate ridge dimensions that allow implant placement at the correct position. Several surgical techniques had been used, either alone or in combination with natural or synthetic grafts. In order to achieve ridge augmentation. One of the crucial factors needed for an augmentation procedure to be successful is space making and its maintenance. This article discusses space making and its maintenance by means of tenting screws that are used in conjunction with bone allografts and resorbable barrier membranes. The aim of these surgical modalities to ensure a successful outcome to the guided bone regeneration (GBR) that enables implants to be place in optimal positions. Three cases are presented to illustrate the utilization and effects of tenting screws during the treatment of narrow ridges. The increase in ridge width was evaluated using cross sectional images obtained by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) before and after GBR. Future studies incorporating more subjects are needed to clearly define the detailed effects of novel technique.
