Dental education in geriatrics is an important requirement to ready the profession to provide comprehensive oral health care to the world's aging population. The pre-doctoral curricula and postdoctoral training programs in the United States were developed and supported by government agencies and professional education societies. Geriatric dental education in American dental schools has improved in the past twenty years, yet is still facingmany challenges. The progress of geriatric dental education at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is presented.
